Simple Ways to Prepare for Your Massage

Before a massage, there’s no strict routine you need to follow — but there are a few little things I personally find helpful. Think of these as gentle suggestions, not rules. Take what feels good, leave what doesn’t.

Give yourself a little buffer time.
Try not to rush to your appointment. Arriving with a few minutes to spare helps your nervous system settle, so you can start your session already feeling calmer and more grounded.

Gentle stretching.
A few light stretches can warm up your muscles and make it easier to release tension once you’re on the table. Nothing fancy — just slow, easy movements like shoulder rolls, neck circles, or a soft forward fold to wake up the body.

Come as you are.
There’s no need to shave, wash your hair, or prepare in any special way. Just wear something comfortable and easy to change out of. The more at ease you feel in your own skin, the more your body can soften and receive.

Take care of practicalities.
Pop to the toilet before your session — it’s hard to fully relax on a full bladder! It’s a simple thing, but it can make a big difference in how settled you feel once you’re lying down.

Breathe.
Before you lie on the table, take a few slow, steady breaths. This small pause helps calm the body and mind, signaling that it’s safe to unwind and let go.

Set a small intention.
You might take a moment to think about what you need most from your massage — perhaps, “I’m here to rest,” or “I’m open to release.” Setting an intention can gently guide your awareness and deepen the experience.

These simple, mindful steps can help you arrive more fully — ready to drop in, let go, and get the most from your time on the table.
